EA hampering the selling of 2nd hand games

I’ve recently sold a bunch of games on eBay, trying to recuperate a few quid so I can by a new laptop. The Wii games sold well, with Okami for selling £10 more than I originally paid for it. Unfortunately I’ve had some trouble with any PC game made by EA. Read more »

8 Games I’d like for Xmas

Unfortunately I don’t have endless amounts of money at my disposal, so I don’t get to play all the games I’d like to. Despite this I thought it would be interesting to have a good think about all the games I’d like to own this Christmas season. You’ll notice a lot of PC games high up in my desires, which shows that despite my Nintendo Fanboy-ism, the lack of quality games for the Wii is taking its toll on me. Read more »

DSi selling out in Japan

According to CVG the newly released Nintendo DSi has sold out in Japan, with 200k units shifted since release. That’s some pretty amazing statistics, and speaks volumes for the popularity of the DS.

I believe this is the third hardware renawal for the DS, and is a suprise to a lot of people that it’s selling so well. Renewing hardware is a little dull, but the DS is well loved, and the tactic seems to be working well for Nintendo.

Sony also recently released a new version of the PSP, which has also sold well. I sold my DS Lite on eBay the other day for an impressive £80, so am in two minds about which piece of hardware I should upgrade to.

New BBC iPlayer for Wii

It’s been know for a while that the BBC iPlayer will run on the Wii’s Internet Channel, and it’s nice to see that the BBC techies have taken note of this. A alternative version of the iPlayer has been released, which features nice big chunky controls, allowing easier operation.

In the past I found that the image quality and framerate were pretty poor, so I’m pleased to see there are a few rumours that Nintendo and the BBC are working on optimised codecs. It would be nice to see a dedicated Wii iPlayer channel, but that might be just a dream.

If you want to preview the Wii version of the iPlayer on your PC, you can visit it here.

I Wish I could play Braid on my Wii

I few months back I went over to a mates house warming, and as the evening wound down, I managed to have ago on the Braid demo on his Xbox 360. I played through the first set of levels, and had to agree with all the reviews I’d read, it was mind bending genius. It’s essential a Platform Puzzle game, but with the interesting addition of time manipulation. Each of the seven worlds distorts time in different ways, for example the first world allows you to rewind it at any point, while in a later world it is relative to your position and direction on screen. If you have a 360, I suggest you download the demo, otherwise I’d take a look on youtube for some videos, as words don’t do it justice.

Unfortunately Jonathan Blow has stated that a WiiWare version of braid will not come to light due to Nintodos size restrictions. Fortuntaly for people like me who don’t own a 360, a PC version is expected late this year.

Wii Music Reviews

The first reviews of Wii Music are appearing on the net, and I’m a little glum reading the verdicts. IGN have given it a disappointing 5/10, which is unusual for an official Nintendo release. I’d still like a go myself obviously, and it may well be worth the purchase just to get the MotionPlus peripheral.

Should you buy a Nintendo Wii?

I’ve noticed a lot of people asking the question “Should I buy a Nintendo Wii game console?”. Since its release in November 2006, the wii has dominated the current generation console battle, with its combination of a cheap price point, unique control system, and family values. This isn’t to say that the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 haven’t seen their own successes, but Nintendo seem to have hit a slightly different demographic of consumer, which has lead to an amazing uptake of their console. To determine which console is best for you, requires you to weigh up the current pros and cons of each platform, which hopefully this article will help you out with. Read more »

World of Goo hits WiiWare

From what I’ve seen of World of Goo, it reminds me a little of the Xbox 360 instant indie classic, Braid. Now I’m sure they are very different games, but they both give me an enormous sense of pleasure, with there charming visuals, and quirky gameplay.

World of Goo is released today, and IGN have already given it the thumbs up. I’m looking forward to downloading it when I get home from work, and am hoping this is the first of many exciting WiiWare titles.

If anyone has already played it, I’d love to hear what you think.

Update: The UK release has been postponed, and it was even removed from Steam. You can still download the PC direct from 2DBoy, and the UK is now expected it to be released as a hard copy with extra content, rather than on WiiWare.

Dead Rising coming to Wii

It’s been know for a while that the 360 title Dead Rising would be coming to the Nintendo Wii, and today I notice CVG have posted some screen shots and video of the game. It’s easy to compare this title to the Xbox 360 version and point out what’s been cut out to accommodate the less powerfull hardware. Sadly because of this many people in the forums seem to be crapping all over it, even before it’s been released.

I guess I’m fortunate not to have ever played the 360 version, so the video footage really caught my attention. It’s certainly not a game in the spirit of Wii Family Fun, but who could resist this zombie killing sandbox paradise!

Dead Rising is expected to be released on the Nintendo Wii early next year.

Wii Speak UK Release Date

Nintendo have announced that Wii Speak will be released in the UK on the 5th of December, which is actually a lot sooner than I expected. The microphone will be available both separately and bundled with “Animal Crossing: Let’s go to the City”. On purchasing the microphone, you will be able to download the new WiiSpeak Channel, which after swapping codes, will allow you to chat with your friends.

I hindsight, it’s ashame they didn’t add a web cam to the device, as although not revoloutionary, it would make the device much more appealing. You’d think Nintendo would like the thought of familys hundling arounf their TV sets, video conferencing with their far away friends and relatives…. then again, it might just get used as a sexcam!
